The price is ridiculous for the ton of material presented. Schenker brings these related concepts together in a meaningful way that- for me, at least- makes it clear how the harmonies of theoey Classical era arose from those of the Baroque. Music Theory for Computer Musicians the standard text. I am not a beginner musician, somewhere in the upper intermediate range.

    What kind of music do you want to compose. Really I haven't found one which goes through things step by hamony. The material is very logically organized, the book uses many examples from the literature - of most of which you can listen to on the DVD-rom accompanying the manual? There are multiple reasons why someone might prefer to get an answer from reddit instead!😧
