To walk right up to the worst subjects in life and thumb your nose at them? Regardless of plot, the acerbic narrator's observations sound more like Larry David than Virginia Woolf. That said, occasionally, a book will get to me, and I find it much easier to laugh when I hear it out loud rather than reading it off a cold, dead page.
