Review: The Dark Wife, by Sarah Diemer

Apple Books. Persephone has everything a daughter of Zeus could want--except for freedom. She lives on the green earth with her mother, Demeter, growing up beneath the ever-watchful eyes of the gods and goddesses on Mount Olympus. But when Persephone meets the enigmatic Hades, she experiences something new: choice. Zeus calls Hades "lord" of the dead as a joke.

Books Retelling Greek & Roman Myths

Believe it or not, some of my favorite kinds of books are the ones that pull from stories I already know. Whether it's adapted fairy tales, re-written classic literature, updated fables, or modern Greek mythology retellings , I'm a sucker for re-reading tales I've already been told in new and exciting ways. Ever since I started studying Greek mythology in grade school, I've been fascinated by the world of Mount Olympus and beyond. The idea of all-powerful gods and goddesses who were in charge of specific parts of the world enthralled me, the prospect of magical powers and fantastic beasts thrilled me, and the promise of immortality and ultimate power enticed me. Like other retellings and reinterpretations, books that use Greek myths as their inspiration take an old and familiar story and update to be something new, excited, and never before seen. Why bother rewriting something that has already been written, you may ask? Because in recreating a familiar tale, you uncover unexpected details that can change the story entirely.

There are some people who were born to write, and author Molly Ringle is one of them. When I see her approach to writing and the way she writes, or hear how she talks about writing, it's clear: for her, writing is a form of play. Words are her puppets, and she is putting on shows. She makes it all look so easy, and the books she writes are nothing less than delightful. Read mine at Molly's blog , and see hers below! Pam Stucky: You have written books on such a wide variety of topics, from ghosts to cousins to your latest, a modern revival tale of Greek mythology. I know this is a horrible question, and I never really know how to answer when people ask me, but: where do you get your ideas?
